Company Profile

Get to know ARTE NOIR through a quick and comprehensive overview of our organization, including our founding principles, milestones, and core areas of work.

  • Founded in 2021 as an online publication, Arte Noir was created to be a platform dedicated to spotlighting and uplifting art and culture from the African diaspora. Recognizing the need for a physical space to serve Seattle’s Black creative community, Arte Noir secured a permanent home in the Central District in 2022. This physical space, located in the heart of Seattle’s historic Black community, serves as a hub for cultural celebration, creativity, and economic empowerment.

  • Arte Noir’s mission is to celebrate and sustain Black art, artists, and culture. We achieve this by cultivating inclusive spaces, fostering economic opportunities, and honoring community alongside the diversity and vitality of Black creativity. Through our gallery, retail space, and educational programs, we provide a platform for Black artists to thrive and for the community to connect with and be inspired by their work.

  • Our vision is to be a beacon of light that celebrates and restores the Black creative community. We strive to be an anchor institution that not only provides a physical home for Black art but also builds generational control and a more equitable future. By creating a space that is unapologetically pro-Black, we ensure that the narrative of Black art is told and valued on its own terms.
