About the Event
Join us with our friends from Pottery Northwest for a special evening with visiting artist Tammie Rubin as she shares insights into her life, influences, and richly layered sculptural practice.
Born in Chicago, Rubin creates intricate, evocative works that explore the symbolic power of objects—transforming the familiar into the fantastical. Her sculptures blur the lines between the handcrafted and the readymade, navigating themes of ritual, longing, migration, magical thinking, and identity. Rubin's work invites viewers into imaginative, dream-like spaces where domestic and liturgical forms become vessels of myth and memory. This talk offers a unique opportunity to hear directly from the artist about her creative process and the ideas that shape her practice.
Rubin received a BFA in both Ceramics and Art History from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, and an MFA in Ceramics at the University of Washington in Seattle. She is currently an Associate Professor at the School of Art and Design at Texas State University.
This event is free and open to the public.
