DEPTH OF FIELD: BRIANA OPPONG-OWUSU

Our featured photographer this month is University of Washington student Briana Oppong-Owusu. The following series was produced in collaboration with the Roots of South Sudan, which hosted a fashion show highlighting South Sudanese traditional outfits. Briana wanted the photos to showcase the beauty of South Sudanese culture and raise awareness for the ongoing war in Sudan.

Briana Oppong-Owusu's work is primarily interdisciplinary in nature and seeks to tell their life stories through art. They produce photographs, paintings, drawings, illustrations, and collages. Their art is inspired by their upbringing, with recurring themes of Blackness, queerness, and the meaning of life.
